Breakbulk Planning, Documentation & Cargo Advice

Breakbulk and project cargo moves often involve extra steps – permits, special lifting, inland road restrictions or terminal requirements. Our team can:
  • Check cargo dimensions, lifting points and securing needs
  • Advise on suitable ports, services and routings
  • Highlight any permits, restrictions or documentation you’ll need
The aim is to catch potential issues early and keep the shipment running smoothly.

Keeping Your Cargo on Schedule

We focus on realistic planning and clear communication rather than over-promising. By coordinating with terminals, hauliers and vessel operators, we work to:
  • Minimise waiting time and handling delays
  • Align inland transport with vessel schedules
  • Keep you informed at key milestones

Breakbulk & Project Cargo FAQs

Breakbulk shipping is the movement of cargo that is too large, heavy or awkward for standard containers. Instead of being loaded inside a container, items such as machinery and mobile homes are lifted individually onto the vessel and secured on deck or in the hold.
Breakbulk refers to cargo that is loaded as individual pieces rather than in containers, typically due to size, weight or shape. Project cargo usually describes complex, high-value or multi-piece shipments linked to a specific project – for example a factory move, construction site or energy installation – and often combines breakbulk, heavy lift and specialist inland transport under one managed plan.
Breakbulk and project cargo services are ideal for mobile homes, heavy and oversized goods, agricultural machinery, manufacturing and construction equipment, industrial plant, vehicles, and other long-length or out-of-gauge items that won’t fit safely into standard containers.
Breakbulk is not always cheaper than container shipping, but it can be more cost-effective and practical for very large, heavy or long cargo that would be difficult or expensive to move in containers. We’ll compare breakbulk, OOG container options and any alternative methods to recommend the most suitable and economical solution for your shipment.
No. While we have strong coverage on routes between the UK and the Baltic region, we also arrange breakbulk and project cargo shipments to and from wider European and global destinations through our international partner network
To provide a tailored quote, we typically need cargo dimensions and weight, number of pieces, collection and delivery locations, preferred ports (if any), required timing and any special handling requirements such as lifting gear, securing or weather protection. The more accurate the information, the more precise we can be on routing, pricing and transit times.
